Introduction

Within the context of the implementation of the Kyoto Agreement for the limitation of production of CO2 and climate change and faced with the predicted exhaustion of fossil energy resources, the architect must favour rational energy use and the exploitation of renewable energies in his/her projects.

He/she must equally satisfy new norms, laws and regulations concerning energy.

Energy problems and environmental problems today offer constraints in projects, which the architect or engineer must handle in the same way as he must other parameters.

It is therefore necessary to develop new knowledge and teaching which prepares architects and engineers for multidisciplinary work in these domains and, which allows association of formal solutions and techniques in projects.

The purpose of this module is therefore to:

Understand physical and biological phenomena, which determine thermal behaviour of buildings.
• Understand physical and biological phenomena which determine sensations of comfort
• Make rough estimates of different phenomena
• Develop the capacity of multidisciplinary work among engineers, geographers, climatologists, sociologists
